Gov. Bala Mohammed

It is said that good leaders are made by God through the popular mandate of their people. Such is indeed, the scenario that led senator Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state to defeat his predecessor, a sitting governor, Barrister M.A Abubakar in a keenly contested 2019 governorship election.

It is in public domain that Governor Bala Mohammed who had served in the Senate before his appointment by former president Goodluck Jonathan to serve as the Minister of federal capital territory, a loyal and devoted stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was able to record tremendous successes which endeared him to the people of Bauchi state. They saw him as the messiah that will rescue the state from eminent decay in infrastructure and other vital parts of the socio economic sectors of the state.

Notable among his numerous achievements in less than 4 years of assumption of office as Governor is his ability to ensure maintenance of peace and tranquility across 20 local government areas of the state, equitable distribution of developmental projects as well as his empowerment initiative, the Kaura Economic Empowerment Program (KEEP) which has made thousands of youths and women become economically empowered.

In 2019, by divine providence, Senator Bala Mohammed became the Governor of Bauchi State at the most challenging time the COVID-19 pandemic was taking its negative effect on the world economy not Bauchi state alone. He ensured that the state was administered diligently with the little scarce resources to address the unending demands of the people of Bauchi state.

Months after assumption of office, governor Bala Mohammed who do not believe in political thuggery, ensured that the popular Sara-Suka political thuggery becomes a thing of the past with thousands of thugs surrendering their weapons to the police at a colorful ceremony that took place at the police headquarters in the state capital. Those youths have since ventured into meaningful businesses of their own as facilitated by the present administration in the state.

During the period under review, the peace loving governor, initiated the incorporation of hunters and Vigilantes into the security architecture of the State to provide the much needed security to lives and properties in the state.

To help in achieving that historical feat, his administration ensured the procurement of hundreds of Hilux Vans and distributed them to police, the army and other paramilitary apparatus in the state.

Apart from execution of projects in many sectors too numerous to mention, Bala’s administration is ensuring that all projects awarded are closely monitored to ensure compliance to terms and conditions of the project so that the people of Bauchi state can never be shortchanged.

Although the Governor is not the noise-making type of politicians that are fun beating drums on every single achievement even if it means within their constitutional responsibility, certainly, good things are always difficult to hide.

It is incumbent to stress that considering his versatility in politics and governance, Bala Mohammed will no doubt be instrumental to the development of Nigeria if given the mandate to preside over Nigeria.

Senator Bala Mohammed, incumbent governor of Bauchi state, whose peaceful disposition endears him to many, some school of thoughts believe is a material that shouldn’t be taken for granted even though he has remained quiet despite calls by different segments of the country to declare for president come 2023.
