Everybody Knows That The Number Of The Beast Is 666 But What Does It Really Mean? -By Joe Dauda

Some readers have asked about what the number of the name of the beast really means. (Mind you, the number of the name of the beast is very different from the mark of the beast). For that reason, I hereby paste, below, the link to an earlier published article which tackles the issue of the number of the name of the beast. Just click and read.

Many people are not aware that, apart from the mark of the beast, another thing to avoid in these last days is the number of the name of the beast. Everybody knows that the number of the name of the beast is 666. But what does it really mean? What does it mean to say someone has the number of the name of the beast? How does one “get” the number of the name of the beast? If having the mark of the beast will enable a person to buy and sell during the reign of the beast (guaranteeing their eternal doom) be aware that having the number of the name of the beast will also enable a person to buy and sell during the reign of the beast and equally guarantee their eternal damnation. The two are options: and it means you can buy and sell during the reign of the beast even if you do not have the mark of the beast — as long as you have the number of the name of the beast. The importance of this teaching is to help readers know what the number of the name of the beast really is (apart from its 666 symbol) so they can avoid it with as much alacrity as they would avoid the mark of the beast, for the two are dangerous and will guarantee a person entrance into the lake of fire, as well as participation in the punishment of the seven last plagues.

Revelation 13:17
“And that no man might buy or sell, except he that had the mark,
Or the name of the beast,
OR THE NUMBER OF HIS NAME.”

As we all know, the word, “or”, in the English language, only exists to introduce an option. So, in Revelation 13:17, there are three options for appeasing the beast and gaining permission to buy and sell. Each of these is as dangerous as the other and equivalent to worshipping the beast.

Revelation 13:8
“And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him. . . “

Option 1: The mark of the beast.
Option 2: The name of the beast.
Option 3: The number of the name of the beast.

Unlike the mark of the beast and the number of the name of the beast, the real meaning of the name of the beast is easy to decode. It is right there in Revelation 13, which describes the beast.

Revelation 13:1
“And upon his heads the name of blasphemy.”

The name of the beast is the name of blasphemy.

But this cannot be worse than the blasphemy that guarantees a person that horrific dive into the lake of fire — whether that blasphemy is committed during the last days or during normal times. It is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which Jesus Christ promised will never be forgiven in this world or in the world to come. If you blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, you must be destroyed in the lake of fire that burns with brimstone and sulphur. Period.

Matthew 12:31, 32.
“But the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men . . . neither in this world, neither in the world to come.”

The good news is that there is no particular sin that the Bible designates as “blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.” So do not be afraid because of the very evil thing you once did, thinking you have somehow sinned against the Holy Spirit. I will address this topic some day but, for now, please understand this: the primary role of the Holy Spirit in the gospel transaction is to convict human beings that they are sinners; John 16:8, KJV, margin. And being convicted of sin is the only means of receiving God’s forgiveness. In fact, only sinners will inherit the kingdom of God because all human beings have sinned. The only difference is this very issue: some sinners accept the verdict of God and agree that they are sinners (and logically seek forgiveness) while others do not agree and try to outsmart themselves. They resist the conviction of the Holy Spirit. It is the process of resisting the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit that eventually results in blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Because they did not welcome the implication of recognizing Jesus Christ as the Messiah and the Son of God, the Pharisees (in Matthew 12:22-25) lied a wicked lie by claiming that His work in casting out devils was sponsored by the devil himself. They knew what they were doing and it is such defiant rejection of the convincing power of the Holy Spirit that made them guilty of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. They must end up in the lake of fire.

A time comes when the voice of God becomes inaudible. If you have never heard it before, God can become “weary” of struggling with the human conscience, as He did in Genesis 6:3 before the destruction of Noah’s generation with a worldwide flood.

Genesis 6:3
“And the LORD said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man.”

If you continue to reject God’s Spirit, He will one day leave you alone forever. It is when God gets to this point of “weariness” in trying to convict a sinner (through His Spirit) that that person crosses into damnation even while still alive because their eternal destiny is fixed. They must go to hell because they will not repent. They will not repent because they can no longer repent. They can no longer repent because God has become “weary” of them and cannot convict them anymore. This is what shuts them away from the grace of forgiveness. And this is how a person can sin against the Holy Spirit or blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. It is a situational sin, caused by consistent rejection of the voice of mercy.

Every unrepentant sinner, thus, has the name of the beast (the name of blasphemy, according to Revelation 13:1) and is already on the way to damnation. Because the gospel must go to every creature in the last days before the end of the world, those who reject the gospel must have to have blasphemed against the Holy Spirit in the process of their rejection. They may not know when they crossed that red line but they do. And God’s vengeance against them for rejecting the truth is to bless them with absolute stupidity that makes them believe a lie. It is a terrible situation and it is described as a strong delusion.

2 Thessalonians 2:11,10
“11. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie. 10. Because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”

For Christians, this delusion is what matures into the hypothetical judgment scene recorded in Matthew 7:21-23. If I were you, I would read that passage.

Telltale signs of this absolute stupidity (caused by divinely-instigated delusion) is what results in a person believing in macro-evolution (a bird becomes a fish and then becomes a human being). For people alive in the 21st century, it is what has made some people willing to swear that a biological male can become a female — along with other absurdities we have been witnessing. It is the vengeance of God at work and their sense of reasoning has been taken from them.

Note that, even without receiving the mark of the beast, every bona fide unrepentant sinner (who naturally must have the name of blasphemy at some point) will be able to buy and sell during the reign of the beast. I did not say so: it is the Bible that presents the three options, namely, the mark of the beast, the name of the beast, or the number of his name. In the last days, three sets of people will be able to buy and sell: those that have the mark of the beast, those that have the name of the beast, and those that have the number of the name of the beast. Because the gospel must be preached in all the world and everybody must have heard (Matthew 24:14) it means a good number of people who consistently reject the gospel and gain the name of the beast as a result (through the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit) would be able to buy and sell, even without having the mark of the beast or the number of the name of the beast. Another set will only have the mark of the beast and be able to buy and sell. Yet another set will only have the number of the name of the beast and be able to buy and sell. Of course there will be some committed rebels against the LORD that will have all three — the name of the beast, the mark of the beast, and the number of the name of the beast. Whatever this exposition means, it means that the beast power will not insist that every single person in the world must receive the mark of the beast. The Bible does not support that notion, although it is widely held. In essence, not all people need to receive the mark of the beast to worship the beast; not all people need to have the number of the name of the beast to worship the beast; and, of course, not all people need to have the name of the beast to worship the beast. Like a fashion designer that designs for each client based on their size, Satan will meet every inhabitant of this world on their own ground and get them to pay allegiance to him one way or the other. According to Revelation 13:17, it will be either by rejecting the gospel and thereby eventually blaspheming the Holy Spirit (which causes a person to have the name of the beast) or by deceiving them to receive the mark of the beast or the number of the name of the beast. I have biblical evidence that the mark of the beast and the number of the name of the beast is specifically packaged for the church and not for the world, unlike the name of the beast, which is the end product of rejecting the gospel of Jesus Christ, even as Matthew 24:14 is being fulfilled in our days. The mark of the beast and the number of the name of the beast are for those who accept the gospel but are deceived in certain aspects of present truth that qualifies them to either receive the mark of the beast, or the number of the name of the beast, or both. For example, the calamity of the Christians in Matthew 7:21-23 (honest, productive, faithful, and full of good works) can only be explained by the mystery of the mark of the beast. Because they were not hypocrites. They were only greatly deceived. And without a correct understanding of end time prophecy, you will be deceived in these last days — no matter who you are.

Indeed, apart from those whose names are written in the Book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world (that is, the Lord Jesus Christ) the whole world will be fully captured under the name, or the mark, or the number of the name of the beast.

The mark of the beast is a mystery and has been addressed in earlier posts. You cannot understand it just by reading Revelation 13 thirteen times — or even fourteen times! You must understand what the seal of God is from other portions of the Bible and then compare with the seal (mark) of the beast, to understand this mystery.

Same case with the number of the name of the beast. Even if you read Revelation 13 eighteen times, although you will see the number of the name of the beast stated in verse 18 as the number, 666, you cannot understand what it really means unless you visit other portions of the Bible, using the key of Revelation 21:17.

To underscore how dangerous the number of the name of the beast is (which most people do not fully understand) and the fact that it is as dangerous as the mark of the beast (which most people have heard about) note that the Bible states that the victory of last day saints must include victory, not just over the mark of the beast, but over the number of his name.

Revelation 15:2
“And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and
OVER THE NUMBER OF HIS NAME,
stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.”

Do you want to be totally victorious over the beast by avoiding, not just the mark, but also the number of the name of the beast?
