The management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology banned log-out week due to an incident that occurred during the last one. The unfateful incidence caused severe people to sustain injuries. Therefore, the ban was placed after Class 19’s log-out week in March 2021.

Of course, security is important, and of paramount importance to the school. But the school management should have opted for an alternative instead of banning a week every final year student looks forward to.

It is not surprising that despite the “ban” on the log-out week, every final student in each department still signed out. Banned or not, the event took place and yet again, a final year student was injured during the activities. This begs the question of how effective the ban is.

The school banned sign-out activities inside the school, and students found a way to do it outside, the result being the same one the school wanted to avoid. Rather than ban the event, why is the school not giving a lasting solution to the problem?

If the school doesn’t want them to sign out inside the school, students will do it outside the school, and the same incident will repeat itself, leading to even fatal outcomes.

Already, they had gathered and carried out a plea walk which yielded no result as the the school management remained adamant. They knew what was at stake and were ready to comply with the school’s rule but that didn’t get them anywhere. Hence, they went rogue.
