For those who do not understand why Russia decided against all odds to invade Ukraine, here’s why -By Eziokwu Chineke Ofor
Secondly there are people in eastern Ukraine (Donetsk and Luhansk regions) who are seeking for their independence from Ukraine. These two nations are predominantly speaking Russian languages and has a close cultural affinity in common with the Russian federation.
First of all, the Ukrainian government is romancing with powers of the West and their American allies, and those allies are trying to lure Ukraine into joining NATO which if Ukraine does, will be a threat to its closest neighbors the Russian federation. This is because those allied forces will start to build NATO military bases around Ukrainian borders and keep a close eye on Russia from that stand point, and Vladimir Putin is not comfortable with the development.

But the Ukrainian government just like the Nigerian government, has refused to allow them a chance to exercise their rights through a referendum, but rather are handling the situation with heavy handedness through extrajudicial executions, genocide and illegal detention of their activists just like it is the case with Biafrans at the hands of the oppressive Nigerian state.
And more importantly to note here is that the Kiev region of Ukraine, that’s the two region seeking for self rule has the biggest oil deposit which serves as the major economy of Ukraine but are being heavily marginalized by their Ukrainian compatriots just like the case between Biafrans and the Fulani controlled government of Nigeria.
On that note, Putin’s Russia then capitalized on the development and decided to invade Ukraine with the guise to saving the oppressed people of Donetsk and Luhansk who are seeking for self-determination.
In the other hand, the US and UK governments plus their allied forces NATO, has been encouraging President Zelensky of Ukraine not to pay attention to Putin’s threats over the years, promising him that they got his back. But following this new development are now seemed to be slacking back from taking any military action because of the danger it could pose for their nations and people, rather, they have resorted to only sanctioning Russia.
Recall that Russia has been repeatedly sanctioned in 2014 for allegedly meddling in the crisis of the two separatist states and had recognised the both as a separate Republic from Ukraine.
