Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Conflict is not a better alternative -By Usama Abdullahi

Just as the Ukrainian people, Nigerians and lots of people from other parts of the world who live there for business purposes or study there, are afraid of untimely death. War isn’t a doll that can be toyed with. It is what makes us divided at a stroke. Its consequences are usually foreseeable. Yes, we fully know that bloodshed accompanies every war.

President Vladimir Putin should know better that war neither remedy our social wrongs nor restore peace.Rather, it helps add to or escalate the already precarious situations. Russian’s invasion to Ukraine is unjustifiable. Putin might be right, but war doesn’t seem the only greatest option to embrace. His reckless actions are being denounced from different parts of the world and by well-meaning leaders. These are strong reasons to bring him back to his senses and for him to acknowledge the fact that war has never been a good choice.

One doesn’t necessarily need to know the reasons Russia wages a war against the Ukraine government before choosing the country to side with. War is war. It ought to be condemned at all costs, regardless of the person or country affected. Humanity should prevail. The recent, unfortunate death of several Ukrainians is a clue about the inexcusable violation of human rights by the Russian government.

You may decide to excuse this or treat it as unworthy of regard because you think it’s international matters, which barely need your concern. But before you do, remember that the vulnerable Ukrainians are also humans like you. The biggest blunder you could ever make is overlooking injustice. As a Nigerian, I feel concerned about this. My people, Nigerians, are also there clamouring for help. What makes them run to the Nigerian embassy to seek for help? It’s because they dread the consequences of this uncalled-for invasion.

War isn’t a doll that can be toyed with. It is what makes us divided at a stroke. Its consequences are usually foreseeable. Yes, we fully know that bloodshed accompanies every war. People either get mutilated or sustain incurable wounds as a result. Afghanistan is a case in point.

Well, It would be okay if you sit back and remain mute, but it’s quite improper to gloat or patronise injustice thereby being slaphappy and unconcerned towards a country that faces ruin. Still, it would be equally unfortunate for Russians as they have to pay the ultimate price of their President’s irresponsible acts; by that means, they will have to experience meteoric economic hardships or regression because of the severe sanctions imposed by the American President, Joe Biden.

Putin shouldn’t confuse his aggression with war. If conceding this war hurts his brittle ego or his country feel threatened as he claims, then he should be informed that “an unjust peace is better than a just war”, as once said by. He should concede to save Europe because it’s at stake and to save humanity as a whole.
