FRSC to Road Users: Take Responsibility for Your Safety During Ember Months
The FRSC in Owo has urged motorists to prioritise safety and avoid distracted driving during the Ember months, warning that road crashes are preventable tragedies.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Owo Unit Command, has called on motorists and all road users to take personal responsibility for their safety to prevent road crashes during the Ember months and beyond.
The Owo Unit Commander, Mr. Joseph Ajayi, gave the charge during the 2025 Ember Months Public Enlightenment and Sensitisation Road Show held on Wednesday in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
This year’s campaign is themed: “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving.”
Ajayi, who also serves as the Assistant Corps Commander, said the awareness drive aligns with Goal 2 of the FRSC’s 2025 Corporate Strategy, which focuses on reducing road traffic crashes and enhancing overall road safety.
He noted that the campaign became necessary due to the recurring rise in accidents and fatalities during the Yuletide season, often caused by human factors such as speeding, fatigue, and distracted driving.
“Road crashes are preventable tragedies. Drivers need to take responsibility for their safety by stopping distracted driving,” Ajayi said.
“We are committed to saving lives and promoting road safety. With collective effort, we can reduce road crashes and make our roads safer for everyone.”
The FRSC commander specifically urged interstate drivers to exercise caution when driving through Owo, describing it as a “Land of Honour” where safety remains the watchword.
He added that the Corps remains proactive in addressing the rising trend of crashes during festive seasons, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility.
“We are urging all road users to prioritise road safety and adhere to traffic regulations during the Ember months,” Ajayi said.
“Lives can be saved, and road safety can be significantly improved across Nigeria.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the event featured a motorcade rally involving key stakeholders such as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Special Marshals, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, Road Safety Clubs, and other road safety advocates.
Participants distributed educational flyers and sensitised motorists on the dangers of reckless driving, urging everyone to remain alert, patient, and law-abiding on the road.
