Gombe: PDP’s fundraising dinner and matters arising -By Dahiru Kera
The essential and fundamental principles of democracy are basically centred around the deliverance of its juicy components and entrenching good governance, transparency and accountability.
In places where democracy functions and flourishes without hindrance, representative democracy often delivers the bulk of its intended benefits to the people, making it perhaps the most cherished system of governance in modern times.
These are benefits that have now come to be regarded as the proverbial ‘dividend of democracy’ It is obvious that the success of leaders or governments can only be justified by the people they govern, because they largely form the nucleus and essence of governance.
In Gombe State for example, within the three and half years stewardship of Gov. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, the electorate and the general populace of the state have enjoyed the dividends of democracy prevailed by the present administration in the state.
As the saying goes; “there is always a light at the end of the tunnel” thus, after almost a decade of living in hopelessness, the state has now witnessed tremendous transformation.
The achievements recorded so far by the current administration in the state cut across all sectors of the economy under the purposeful leadership of the Dankwabo- led government.
The fund-raising dinner recently organised by the Peoples Democratic Party in the state bears testimony to the high performance of the current administration in the state.
A number of NGOs, including traders associations, women society groups, farmers associations, associations for disable persons attended the fund raising dinner, which goes to underscore the inclusiveness of the state government.
Therefore, with the unfolding events and happenings within the state’s political circle, Gov. Dankwambo has the support of the ordinary man in the state and if performance and antecedents will be used as yardstick in choosing the person that will steer the affairs of the state for the next coming four years, Dankwambo will certainly fit the bill.
