The annual season of Christmas celebration is here again. The weather has longed changed and the air we now breath differs. The bells have begun ringing, the mistotles are hung; ribbons are tied on the presents kept beside the trees with lights shinning bright all around. It is time to take a break from rigorous endeavors to reunite with families and friends whom we’ve missed their warm presence. A time to share and receive love. Nevertheless, beneath this blissful atmosphere of festivity; immorality, bad, wrong and evil have obviously proven to be on the increase. Some examples of these are: the incessant killings, human rituals, robberies, stealings, fornications, gluttony and the likes. A lot of these obviously happen during this period of celebration. Thus, the mind boggling question is, how are we ought to conduct ourselves?

First and foremost kidnappings and killings of human beings have been on the increase. Recently, male students were reportedly adopted from a boarding school. The perpetrators of this evil act have asked that money be paid for their release.

Secondly, it is logical to say that abortion is the aftermath of fornication. That is, fornication in most cases leads to abortion. This is because, the effect (abortion) is neither planned for nor foreseen in this context. On the one hand, Abortion is the termination of the embryo (child) in the womb; as on the other hand fornication is the consensual sexual intercourse between two persons who are married to each other. These human acts are both wrong by christian morality. (Cf. 1corinthians 6: 13; 18) Thus, should be avoided.

Thirdly, one of the observed features of the season is no doubt, eating and drinking. These features bring about happiness and the attainment of pleasure by man. Furthermore, eating and drinking among several social groups fosters unity, thus cannot be thought of been exempted from festivals of this kind. Little wonder did st. Augustine assert that “man by nature desires happiness” (Augustine’s confession, cited in omorogbe, 2005, 18). Nevertheless, eating and drinking that is suppose to result to happiness ends up bringing pains and regrets. Evident of this fact are those who have in time past got drunk yet ignited the engine of their vehicles and as a result ended up in accident.

Virtue according to Aristotle, lies in the middle. The two extremes of deficit and excess, in other words, not doing a thing and doing it in excess should be avoided. Human acts like drinking and eating are applicable by this thought. The watch word in this case should be moderate. Eating and drinking should be done moderately.

Also, no man will be happy been hurt by another and no man enjoys been in pain, thus, no one should afflict another man with the pains that comes from kidnapping, stealing or robbery and so forth.

Very importantly, Christ is the reason for the celebration. He’s birth we await so as to revive us from the misfortune that has bedeviled our world. We are emotionally tortured, psychologically traumatized, spiritually wounded, physically in balance and mentally maim. We are served with cups full of tears and sorrows.
