Now that they don’t want us to die from Coronavirus -By Pelumi Fakinlede

Whenever I read about the policies of the Nigerian Government, I just laugh at the way our government reason. Even if these decisions are global but we will see that these other nations of the world have provided various amenities to ease the stress of their people yet the Nigerian government wants to follow suit these policies but this issue is laughable. The world will remember the 20th of October, 2020 when the Nigerian government sent men in khaki on innocent people protesting against police brutality at the lekki toll gate and they have have deny the incident and the death of the people yet these same government is protecting us from covid 19.

Now there is an executive order that everyone must wear nose and face mask, shut down events and church services in some states and even postpone school resumptions has a means of curtailing the spread of the virus and if you violate these rules, the offender will be made to pay a fine and face imprisonment just because they don’t want the government to care for them. In a short word, the Nigerian government will punish anyone who want to die from the coronavirus

The government that cannot protect us from hunger, unemployment, poverty and the rest of issues they can procure solutions to yet they want to protect us from global pandemic. Everyday the poverty level in the country increases geometrically and our government are not bothered about that, on the street I met a woman who said she prefers to die of coronavirus than to be killed by hunger. The numbers of retirements in civil services each day should indicate that the government offices should be empty yet they are not employing people to fill in those spaces created due to retirement and if they want to employ, it is two for every twenty that retires and the two are those who are opportune to know someone who knows someone in government.

The government that cannot keep our public educational institutions from being locked and keep our lecturers from going on strike wants to keep the Nigerians from Coronavirus, who are they deceiving. The education system is suffering from its own mutated coronavirus and it is dying gradually yet the government have not taken it to the ICU for treatment and care, by keeping our public education institutions’ doors from being closed, many Nigerian students’ lives will be safeguarded. During these nine months strike, many young people loose their lives to rape, accident and social vices yet the government is reluctant in answering the striking lecturers till recently.

The health system of Nigeria is in shambles and infact the government cares more of how much it make from the sector rather than the lives of the populaces and the advent of the coronavirus became a money making venture for nigerian government because the global community are ready to give money to any country that declare cases and Nigeria has since then declare cases on daily basis and one will wonder that in January, it was the song of lassa fever that was on the air and all of the sudden, it was no more an issue to battle because it was not bringing in money to the high, rank and file.

I have concluded that the Nigerian government does not want our death to be caused by this pandemic but rather from their hands due to the hunger and poverty they inflict on the people due to their financial mismanagement and embezzlement. Now that the Nigerian government don’t want us to die from coronavirus, they want to be the one to kill us themselves.
