INEC: Over 8 Million Nigerians Complete Pre-Online Voter Registration Nationwide
INEC reports that more than 8 million Nigerians have completed pre-online voter registration in the ongoing CVR, with Imo, Lagos, and Ogun leading participation and youth making up 69% of registrants.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than eight million Nigerians have successfully completed the pre-online registration phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the country.
In a statement released in Abuja, INEC disclosed that over 1.7 million citizens have completed both online and physical registration, marking a significant milestone in the current voter registration cycle.
According to the week nine update, Imo State topped the chart with 826,850 registrations (10.32%), followed by Lagos State with 604,619 (7.56%), and Ogun State with 510,062 (6.37%). Yobe State recorded the lowest turnout with 2,714 registrants (0.03%).
INEC added that registration activities in Anambra State remain suspended in line with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act, 2022, pending the conclusion of the November 8 governorship election in the state.
A gender breakdown of the pre-online registration shows 4,190,890 females (52.37%) and 3,812,306 males (47.63%), with the youth demographic (ages 18–34) leading participation at 5,533,514 (69.14%). The middle-aged group (35–49) accounted for 1,678,212 (20.97%), while 704,866 elderly citizens (50–69) also registered.
In terms of occupation, students made up the largest group with 2,018,967 (25.23%), followed by business owners with 1,659,690 (20.74%). Meanwhile, Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) constituted 182,718 (2.29%) of the total online registrants.
For completed registrations, INEC reported that 956,566 Nigerians concluded their process online, while 753,884 finalized their registration physically at designated centres nationwide.
Youth participation remained dominant, accounting for 73.74% (1,261,288) of the total completed registrations. Gender data showed 945,305 females (55.27%) and 765,145 males (44.73%), while 24,207 PWDs (1.41%) completed their registration.
By state performance, Osun (151,593) led in total completed registrations, followed by the Federal Capital Territory (106,855), Lagos (85,831), Kano (96,280), and Imo (90,469).
INEC reiterated that the figures remain provisional, as the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) will be deployed to clean the data and remove multiple or invalid entries.
The Commission urged all eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered to take advantage of the ongoing exercise by visiting the official portals — https://cvr.inec.gov.ng or https://cvr.inecnigeria.org — or by completing their registration at the nearest INEC office.
