The order of the day in Nigeria now is insecurity. It though settled in our law that main duty of any leader is to provide security and welfare. But it is a sad news to announce to all Nigerians that, this function has been forgoten by our government. That is why insecurity has become nomalcy and themes of their manifestoes.

Every sector in Nigeria needs restructuring, include our security sector. The incessant incident of killing, kiddnaping, raping and others are the result of lack of standard security sector in Nigeria. This really needs urgent response from the government. Our armed forces have earnestly turned from security body to insecurity body.

Among them are the protectors of thieves, kidnappers, banditry, armed robbers because of the bribery. Various cases have been heard where the police serve as agent of information and supply of weapons that is meant to protect Nigerians to armed robbery and kidnappers against Nigerians. Are they security officers or insecurity officers.

Just recent, we heard a case wherein Soldiers are the protectors of a reknown kidnappers because of what they are getting from him. Many polices are killed by these inhuman soldiers because of money. Behold, all this kind of crimes will not cease unless Nigeria is ready to reframe our security body. Both human and mechanical resources has to be provided for our security body. Perhaps, they wil intesify efforts in curbing insecurity in our land.

Government is also a contributor to the insecurity in Nigeria. Compare the salary of those leaders to that of our security body. In fact, nobody will wholeheartedly work as a security to protect citizens when a criminal offers him a billion that he can never get till his retirement period. I think, the sector that is supposed to be getting more attention should be where the lives of citizens are involved. The government ought to give serious concern to this sector. Because people are dying everyday.

These people are protecting lives at the expense of theirs, therefore, government ought to compensate them with a beautiful salary. But it is sad that the reverse is the case in Nigeria. That is why someone said, if the armed forces are getting the same salary as that of our senators there won’t be any criminal in Nigeria.

I hereby urge our governmet to take a serious and urgent step to furnish our security sector with both human and mechanical resources in order to save this country from insecuriy that has become order of the day.

God bless Nigeria…
