ASUU Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a two-week warning strike, giving the federal government a final window to conclude ongoing negotiations with the union.

ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, announced the decision during a press conference held on Sunday at the union’s national secretariat, University of Abuja.

Piwuna said the strike would take effect from midnight, directing all ASUU members across Nigerian universities to withdraw their services immediately.

He accused the federal government of insincerity in addressing key issues raised by the union, which include funding, welfare, and the implementation of prior agreements.

“This two-week warning strike is to give the government a window to conclude all outstanding negotiations,” Piwuna said.

Further details on the union’s demands and the government’s response are expected to follow.
