The most awaited 2015 general elections has been concluded in March and with the inauguration of the executives all over the country late last week, what is now on the mind of every Nigerian and the lips of all stakeholders and analysts is how the legislators both at the states and National level will conduct themselves in electing their principle officers.

In Katsina State (and ofcause few others), their case is particularly different for the House of Assembly will comprise of no single opposition as all the elected members are of the same party -the APC. That is why as easy as it may seems to be, competent leaders that can steer the affairs of the Assembly with minimal or no interference from the executives must be elected.

Having said all that and giving his antecedents and political sagacity, no one fit for the speakership position morethan Honourable Abdullahi Mahuta. Yes, being him representing Malumfashi Local Government which happens to be in the same zone with Kafur Local Government (where the Governor came from) should not bare use from having the best out of his leadership skills. As the APC leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmad Tinubu said “Zoning should not supersede competence in APC”.

Being him among the only four two-term members in the next House of Assembly and also the minority leader in the just concluded Assembly where he showed the stuff he is made up as a formidable Honourable Member when in 2013 he was suspended from the House for accusing the then Assembly for not performing its duties judiciously. He was quoted to have said “the lawmakers defeated the essence of democracy as they were supposed to checkmate excesses of the state governor but had failed to do so”.

Above all, if not for anything, Honourable Abdullahi Mahuta is known for his widely accepted social revolution concept of ‘NIMA NA YARDA’ he championed (meaning: me too, I have agreed) of which he strongly believe with the enrolment of civil servants, political and public figures children into public schools.

For this and many more reasons, many analysts and public commentators (including this writer) are of the believe that the cap of the speakership fit him the most. We want a vibrant Assembly that will oversee the executives and run itself in the most transparent way in line with the principle of President Muhammadu Buhari.
