The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents that the state remains safe and peaceful despite reports of protests in parts of the country.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh gave the assurance on Monday while addressing journalists during a “Show of Force” operation conducted by the command in Ikeja.

Jimoh said the exercise was designed to reassure the public of the police’s readiness to maintain peace and order, as well as to deter potential troublemakers.

“We want residents to know that they are safe and can go about their lawful businesses without fear,” the Commissioner stated.

He explained that the command had made strategic deployments to all major flashpoints where protests had previously taken place, including Lekki Toll Gate, Ojota, Maryland, and Gani Fawehinmi Park, among others.

“We have made proper deployments to all identifiable points where protesters used to gather in the past,” Jimoh said.

He added that while peaceful protests are a democratic right, the police would not tolerate any act that disrupts public peace or infringes on the rights of other citizens.

“Protests are allowed anywhere in the world, but when you take the law into your hands and disrupt public order, that is no longer a protest,” he warned.
“We will not allow anyone to infringe on the rights of others who are going about their daily activities.”

Jimoh also revealed that all police formations across the state had been directed to send situation reports every 15 minutes to ensure real-time monitoring of events.

He confirmed that, so far, there had been no reports of unrest, traffic disruption, or violence in any part of Lagos, noting that areas such as Ojota, Maryland, and Lekki remained calm.

“Lagos is safe, peaceful, and free of any form of protest. We will continue to patrol and monitor all areas to sustain the peace residents are enjoying,” the Commissioner assured.
