Mkpụrụ Mmiri Can We Cut Off The Head Of This Poisonous Snake? -By Chima Christian

The ecstacy drugs of that nature give to their consumers is far higher than the pain any vigilante unit can inflict. Meanwhile, those who serially abuse drugs, are far into it and need therapeutic help. I can’t see how flogging or other corporal punishments can provide that badly needed help.

Mkpụrụ Mmiri

From a root cause analysis point of view, is Mkpụrụ Mmiri (Methamphetamine Hydrochloride) locally produced? If yes, where in Anambra is it produced? Can the government take out the producers/production facilities and the few available supplies in the market will dry up naturally?

If it is not locally produced, how does it enter Anambra state? Who controls the supply chain? How many layers of command/control does it go through before it enters the hands of Anambra’s young people? Can this chain of command be studied with a view of cutting off the head this poisonous snake?

The idea of rounding up and flogging drug abusers while at the same time conveniently overlooking the supply side of it, especially the higher ups, is not going to yield desired results.

Those who have the ears of those in authority should beg them to please take out this problem from the supply side of it. The damage this particular drug, and others in its class, is doing to our young people is far too consequential to be ignored.

Meanwhile when we address the supply side of the equation, we should circle back to ask questions as to how our young people are increasingly losing hope and beginning to find life too difficult that hard drugs now seem like an essential coping mechanism.
