On March 18, 2024, the Nigerian Army released a statement accusing the Okuama community in Delta State of planning and carrying out a deadly attack on military personnel. At least 15 soldiers were killed during a communal clash over a land dispute in Bomadi and Okuoma communities.

The Army claims that instead of cooperating with authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice, the community has resorted to propaganda and spreading false information. This, according to the Army, is a clear indication that the attack was premeditated and communally orchestrated.

The Army has vowed to bring those responsible to book and has assured law-abiding citizens that there will be no reprisal attacks in the community. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Toareed Lagbaja, has directed that all culprits must be apprehended and held accountable for their actions.
