Before him, the political party was supreme. The president and the governors were under the control of the party. But when he came, he killed all that and made himself the overlord with the governors as his deputy overlords.

From then the party became subservient to the president and the governors, and the party chairman became an erran boy of the president and even the governors. The president began to decide who would emerge as presidential candidate and even gubernatorial candidates. The governors began to choose and impose their candidates.

The governors also killed the local government system within their states.

Selection became superior to election even in the general election.

Jonathan tried to return the country to a semblance of democracy. Buhari came in and undid many of the things Jonathan did in that area.
