Peace is a dynamic concept which covers a wide range of the affairs of human race for the concept of PEACE in its entirety starts from an individual. Every individual who peace dwells in is contented and devoid of violence/violent acts likewise in the same spirit, is at peace with the Creator of the entire Universe and subsequently cohabits peacefully with others. Such is referred to as a “Peaceful Individual” and any act of peace from him/her is termed a “Peaceful Act”. Hence, we all should endeavour to be peaceful individuals and exhibit peaceful acts rather than violence.

In a society where the first agent of socialization being the family can’t flourish in peace because of family crisis and marital issues, how can such marriage institution breed peaceful individuals? This has resulted to the perpetual state in which we are- where our children, teenagers, adolescents and most adults all engage in the act of drug abuse which makes them vulnerable to being used as tools for criminal acts and social vices, breeching security and distorting the sanity of our society.

Here in, the struggle for peaceful coexistence and harmony becomes so rare and therefore needs to be structured into our system and organization. Peace is a critical subject which is objectively geared towards love and unity amongst human race so we can cushion more growth and development in our society.

World Institute for Peace (WIP), Kogi State branch in the race of promoting peace would take to fight against drug abuse and violence in order to reduce the vulnerability of our youths being tools for social vices and crimes through empowerment programs and sensitization projects.

Several studies and happenings have shown clearly that youths are tools/machineries for crises and violence in the society while the same youths, children, women and the elderly are direct and indirect victims of crises and violence.

No society however, is completely devoid of crises but it should be resourceful. This is because misunderstanding properly channeled via healthy communication and dialogue breeds more understanding and the reverse is the case.

At this juncture, WIP Kogi State Branch is calling on all and sundry to help promote peace in Kogi State and Nigeria at large for only in peaceful coexistence and harmony can we strive progressively as a nation.
