Queen Elizabeth II: Return our artefacts, Kebbi monarch tells UK
The monarch who was represented by the High Chief of Argungu Emirate Council Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan, also condoled with the British government over the death of Queen Elizabeth.
The Emir of Argungu in Kebbi state, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera has urged the British government to return some of the significant artefacts of the Kabi kingdom carted away during the colonial era.
The traditional ruler made the appeal when he received British High Commissioner to Nigeria Catriona Laing in his palace at Argungu on Wednesday.
Laing had tweeted yesterday that she arrived in Kebbi state for a three-day official visit.
“After a difficult period, it is lovely to arrive in beautiful Kebbi state for a 3-day official visit. Thank you to Kebbi State Government for a very warm welcome,” Laing tweeted.
The Emir while meeting the British envoy clarified that some of the old artefacts went missing during the colonial rule in his kingdom.
Mera said: “I appeal to the British Government to please help us return all our missing artefacts to Kabi Royal Palace.”
The monarch who was represented by the High Chief of Argungu Emirate Council Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan, also condoled with the British government over the death of Queen Elizabeth.
He noted that the history of Nigeria would be incomplete without mentioning the role of the United Kingdom.
British High commissioner Catriona Laing appreciated the warm reception accorded to her and her team at the emir s palace.
The commissioner also visited the Kanta Museum and Fulani Ruga where she was taken around to see the rich cultural heritage of the people.
She also visited Wacot Rice Mill in Argungu where she interacted with the management and staff of the company.
