Rival cult groups brawl once more in Ogun, killing two

The first victim, a suspected member of the Eiye cult, was shot and killed near the Alogi crossroads in the Obantoko neighborhood of Abeokuta. The second victim, Timo Olukayode, a member of the Aye fraternity, was shot and had his head crushed by a stone at Bode-Olude.

According to reports, a cult fight in the capital of Ogun State, Abeokuta, on Sunday claimed the lives of two people.

The victims, who were purportedly members of the Aye and Eiye fraternity groups, were said to have been shot and killed in various parts of the city.

It was learned that the murder was a reprisal for the shooting three weeks prior of Olumide Ifeoluwa, a well-liked neighborhood youngster and Aye fraternity member, who was killed by suspected members of the Eiye cult.

When contacted, Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer, verified the occurrence and stated that Olukayode’s body had been placed in the morgue at the State Hospital in Ijaiye.

“The DPO received information from members of the public at approximately 1300hrs regarding an unknown man being pursued by a group of thugs suspected of being cultists,” the spokeswoman stated.

He was pursued all the way to Elega and back to the Dopamu backstreet via Bode Olude and the Miliki crossroads.

“A police team led by DPO Adatan and DPO Elega visited the scene and encountered the lifeless body of a young man in a pool of his blood, his head broken with stone. Police intervened immediately and evacuated his body to the Ijaiye Hospital mortuary.”

She added that the State’s Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, had ordered a probe into the incident, while a manhunt has been launched for the perpetrators of the act.
