Scottish Footballer Niall Geany Jailed for Raping Woman Who Let Him Charge His Phone
Scottish footballer Niall Geany, 19, has been sentenced to three years and nine months for raping a woman who invited him in to charge his phone. The High Court in Glasgow described the assault as “forcible and violent.”
A 19-year-old Scottish footballer, Niall Geany, has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for raping a woman who had allowed him into her home to charge his phone after a night out.
Geany, a right back from Kirkliston near Edinburgh, shared a taxi with the woman before finding himself stranded near her residence on March 3, 2024. Out of kindness, she invited him inside, but he soon made unwanted sexual advances despite knowing she had a boyfriend.
According to the court, the victim showed “no romantic interest” and repeatedly said “No.” Geany later admitted in a police interview that she told him to “Stop,” yet he continued and raped her, leaving her injured.
At the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Alistair Watson said, “She allowed you in her home and she placed trust in you that night. You clearly committed the crime of rape,” as reported by Daily Mail UK.
The judge described the assault as “forcible and violent,” noting the “massive impact” on the victim. However, he considered Geany’s age, “high intelligence,” and “low risk of reoffending” in deciding a reduced sentence, adding that he believed the former Spartans FC player could be rehabilitated and “go on to lead a pro-social life.”
Geany will begin serving his sentence in a young offenders’ institution before being transferred to an adult prison. He was also added to the sex offenders register and given a lifelong non-harassment order preventing contact with the victim.
