Seriake Dickson: Is Voice Of Bayelsans Voice Of God? -By Thombra Dokubo
It is a known fact in politics as it is with any competition that failure is an orphan. In contradiction, the smell of victory and the taste of success are known to be sweet. In the forthcoming Bayelsa State governorship elections in which Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of the PDP and former Governor Timipre Sylva of the APC will lock horns, the dust of campaign is clearing and it is becoming clear who Bayelsans will vote for in the historic and crucial election.
Amongst Bayelsans generally, it is becoming obvious by the day that the Bayelsa Restoration Project must be sustained. This is a fact judging from the developments across every communities that the campaigns have been taken to.
Curiously enough, the APC is advocating change at a time that Nigerians have been faced with one of the most disappointing moment of our history, judging by the woeful performance of the APC at the Central.
Inadvertently, they have forgotten that Bayelsans are not interested in their unrealizable Change, being preached in the State.
To Bayelsans, the way the APC campaign team conducted its campaign has shown clearly that it lacks confidence in its candidate, Timipre Sylva is morally burdened with allegations of corruption and patronship of several violent gangs in the State.
Indeed, the worry amongst the Bayelsa electorate and Bayelsan in general is not that Governor Dickson and the PDP will retain Bayelsa in the governorship election, but by what margin of victory, considering some scanty support of Timi Sylva in the two Local governments of Southern Ijaw and Brass in Bayelsa State. Again, the reason and telltale signs are there for all to see.
The first is that Bayelsans have successfully resented and resisted the desperation of APC to hijack power in the State.
The APC forgot that Bayelsa in a predominantly PDP state and the party, still in power and wield enormous power clout which has been used duringthe campaign to highlight Timi Sylva’s lack of articulation and incoherence of ideas.
In many instances, Bayelsans have started seeing hitherto inaccessible and unavailable powerful APC officials and even Sylva himself showing up at parties and social events which they have shunned with contempt in the recent past.
The message they seem to be passing to their surprised acquaintances is that they are back because the game is up and they know for certain that it is no business as usual in the corridors of power in Bayelsa politics. This is because the Seriake Dickson PDP campaign in Bayelsa State has upset the apple cart of APC’s expectations and federal might.
Such is the assurance of victory and joy amongst Bayelsans and defected APC supporters that they now only pray to God and for good health to see them through to the December election when they cast their ballot to seal Governor Henry Seriake’s victory for a second term.
