Sir Shina Peters Reveals: “I Had My First Child at 14”
Afrojuju legend Sir Shina Peters opens up on The Honest Bunch podcast, revealing he had his first child at 14, bought a car at 13, and built his first house at 16, while reflecting on why he’s no longer making new music.
Veteran Nigerian Juju musician, Oluwashina Akanbi Peters, popularly known as Sir Shina Peters, has made a candid revelation about his early life, disclosing that he became a father at just 14 years old.
In a teaser for the upcoming episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the Afrojuju legend reflected on his humble beginnings and the rapid pace of his success in both life and music.
“I started my career at the age of 10. I had my first child at 14. I bought my first car at 13. I built my first house at 16,” he shared.
Now 67 years old, Sir Shina Peters said he has no plans to return to active music-making, explaining that the current creative environment is no longer suitable for his artistic expression.
“About 65 per cent of my fans are Igbos, not Yorubas. They keep asking me for new music, but I can’t just go to the studio. The atmosphere is not conducive for me — I don’t even know what to sing,” he said.
The Afrojuju pioneer, known for his timeless hits and electrifying stage performances, continues to be celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most influential musicians, blending traditional Juju sounds with Afrobeat rhythms to create his signature style.
