The Leaders Reflect The People -By Abdullahi Muhammad

During the Covid-19 pandemic, I understood several things in the global arena. Some countries donated a number of protective facilities against the virus to poor countries. While some countries capitalised on the sorry situation of their people make money out of the humanitarian aids they received.

I always ask myself why some countries are underdeveloped while others are developed. I also ask myself why some countries have greedy and selfish leaders while other countries have compassionate and sympathetic leaders who love to grow their nations.

It is no gainsaying that those leaders are neither supernatural beings nor are they from another planet. They are just people like everyone in their communities. Every leader is a product of his own society. He has the peculiarities of his own society in terms of behaviour, attitude, compassion and morality.

Leaders are the leaves of societal roots. When the roots are good, the leaves will look fresh and striking and give comfortable shade to everyone. But when the roots are poor, even the tiniest and thinnest needle cannot be protected by the tree from the sun.

If my question is answered correctly, then developmental activities are not exclusive for specific people. They are for everyone within a particular environment or society. In today’s societies, especially in underdeveloped countries, people always surrender developmental issues to their politicians only.

Instead of aiding the politicians to materialise their goals, they end up giving negative comments on different communication platforms.
Those people forget that they are the machinery of the leaders. When the machinery works effectively, it produces good results and high quality products.

In Nigeria, during the Covid-19 pandemic, I bought a face mask at the price of 1000 naira from my friend. Prior to the pandemic, face masks sold at 30 naira only. The question here is; how could the masses who do not have 1000 naira to feed their families afford a face mask?

This is absolutely not a nice story. To avoid a repeat of such a horrible story, we must have compassion for one another of we really mean development. Otherwise, we will never progress.

Last but not least, I have examined that if u want to know something about a people, make a good observation of their leaders. Because the leaders mirror the people and are from them.
