The Story of the Man with the Option Of The Bread and The Key -By Fakinlede Pelumi

Nigerians are the ones in the illustration. Every election year, we await a change of governance but yet a little relief of small money makes us sell our freedom for another four years. Election in Nigeria is like bring and buy in the orthodox churches in which voters bring their voter’ s card and right to be bought over with few notes of the naira.

the bread prisoner

Jakie found himself in a cruel prison, a jail where he wasn’t given enough food for four years. With hunger in his stomach and mind, he prayed for his deliverance, just as a miracle; the jailer brought jakie a long loaf of bread as a relief for the four years torture and accidentally the key to the jail fell off him without knowing. The sight took him by surprise yet he was in a dilemma of which one to take. As Jakie was taking the bread, the jailer came and take the fallen key, leaving the prisoner in the jail for another term with just a loaf of bread. (Frictional)

In 2019, we all complained bitterly that corruption was on the high side yet we still sold our freedom. I remember telling the Npower beneficiaries that the agenda of permanency was a political scam and some almost asked for my head but today, we now live in the reality of what we caused for ourselves. After two months of no pay, protest and counter protest, social media noises and agitation, we have retreat to fate, begging God to touch Mama Farouk’s heart.

Employment was a scam too in our election only few of these politicians fulfill their electioneering promises. Thousands of youth graduate every year from our various institution of learning yet there is no space for employment. What you will hear is that our youth are lazy, they should go to farm while malami’s four sons have nothing in particular they do but they live as kings in Abuja. The son of the most righteous man sold to us in 2015 does not have a particular income but he has two expensive power bikes, his sister finished with third class from a UK university and occupies a juicy post on the oil board while many first class graduates from the hell called Nigerian university are doing Npower.

Ever since the change mantra which later became next level came, Boko Haram became a phenomenon and Fulani herdsmen became a figure. Myetti Allah became a voice and death on regular basis yet we had a chance to throw away the bread and pick the key to be free but we didn’t take it rather we chicken out by few notes of naira. Insurgency became another name for Nigeria and death on the news became a regular anticipation just because we choose to not do the needful.

Some states in Nigeria will be going to the pool again and these men have loaded their hands with money to buy our freedom again and the stupidity is that some of us who are well voiced will sell our people out to these people. Governance became a family affairs, everyone runs to get tickets to eat from the national or regional cake. Let’s leave God out of our foolishness, our destiny is in our hands. Pick the key and not the bread because there are varieties of loaves of bread to eat once we are free.

The Yoruba will say “Abo Oro la so fun omoluwabi, to ma denu e adi odidi” in English, a word is enough for the wise.
