Tinubu Reconstitutes NERC Board, Appoints Mulisiu Oseni as Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16, 2025.

Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed Chairman of the Commission, with Yusuf Ali named Vice Chairman. Other Commissioners on the reconstituted board are Nathan Rogers Shatti, Dafe Akpeneye, Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, Dr. Chidi Ike and Dr. Fouad Animashaun.

The appointments were confirmed in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga. He explained that Dr. Oseni, who first joined NERC as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, assumed office as Chairman on December 1, 2025. His tenure will run until the completion of his 10-year term in line with the Electricity Act, 2023.

Dr. Ali, who was first appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, became Vice Chairman on December 1, 2025, for the remainder of his first term.

Mr. Shatti and Mr. Akpeneye are both serving second terms as Commissioners, having initially been appointed in January 2017, while Aisha Bello is also on her second term, following her first appointment in December 2020. Dr. Ike is serving his first term, having been appointed in February 2022.

Dr. Animashaun joins the board for his first term effective December 2025. An energy economist, he brings extensive experience in Nigeria’s power sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

President Tinubu has charged the reconstituted NERC board to deepen and consolidate ongoing reforms in the power sector in strict compliance with the provisions and objectives of the Electricity Act, 2023.
