Tragedy as 22-Year-Old Woman Commits Suicide After Discovering Boyfriend’s Infidelity
A 22-year-old woman, Odama Mary Agado from Cross River, reportedly took her own life in Enugu after discovering her boyfriend with another woman. Locals say she had supported him financially before the heartbreaking incident.
A 22-year-old woman, Odama Mary Agado, has reportedly died by suicide after allegedly catching her boyfriend with another woman in Enugu.
Mary, a native of Woleche-Ipuole in Yahe Ward, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, was said to have consumed a poisonous substance suspected to be Sniper shortly after the incident.
Until her death, Mary was a hairdresser based in Enugu, where she owned and operated her own salon.
‘She bought him a car and rented his apartment’
According to a local source identified as Daniel, the deceased had been doing well in her hairdressing business and was deeply committed to her relationship.
“She was doing well and even bought a car for her boyfriend and rented an apartment for him,” Daniel said.
“But somehow, the boyfriend got involved with another girl. When Mary visited him last Friday to spend the weekend, she met him with the other lady in the apartment she rented for him and became furious.”
Daniel explained that a distraught Mary returned to her own apartment and called her mother to recount what had happened.
“She told her mother to take whatever she heard in good faith, saying she would not live again — meaning she was about to take her own life,” he said.
‘Her mother couldn’t call her back’
Daniel further revealed that Mary’s mother did not immediately respond to the distress call because she reportedly had no airtime on her phone.
“She didn’t call her back or alert anyone because she said she had no airtime,” Daniel added.
“A few hours later, she received a call that Mary had drunk Sniper and was rushed to the hospital.”
Despite efforts by doctors to save her life, Mary reportedly died later that Friday evening. Her remains were subsequently transported to her hometown for burial the following day.
“Immediately the body arrived on Saturday, we dug a grave and buried her because she was too young to be kept for the customary burial ceremony,” Daniel said.
Community in shock
Daniel noted that no police report was filed, as the community believed she had taken her own life voluntarily.
“We are still in shock over her action. Some people say she was spiritually manipulated, but whatever the reason, no amount of blame will bring her back,” he added.
