What next after UDUS: A clarion call to all graduates -By Ghazali Ibrahim Abdulhamid

Many people think of what to encounter after graduating from a higher institution of learning. Students must always think about what will be my next move after graduation? What will I do? Am I using my certificate to work or my skills?

All these are what will be ravaging the heart ofany potential students before graduating. A serious and thorough thinking should be done about what life after campus will be. Some people graduate and find it hard to cope with their lives again while some are bunch of lucky whereby piece of national cake is awaiting their graduation.

Students always have the thought of living a luxury life after graduation but many didn’t prepare for what they will face in the outside world. Indeed, every person has the right to live a better life but the situation outside the campus is different from what it’s shown to us in school.

That’s why it will be advisable to engage yourself in some skills that will serve as the sword to fight your battle after graduating because many graduate face this problem when they get out of school thinking about what life to live.

After school,some people start to search for jobs and some job will be looking for them. Nevertheless, it’s always important to make preparation about what life will be for you after school because this is the time human live in a real world.

If you haven’t find out what to do after graduating, there are chances that a lot of people out there among your peers haven’t found out their way out, so don’t panic. However, lemme take you through ways by which you can hit your jackpot after campus,not necessarily mean you will have a lot of money but you won’t be useless in the society.

Firstly, get a graduate job with your certificate. Although many outside are also searching for job but at least try to pursue your career first, you might be lucky. Career support students the most after they graduate. Though the pandemic may have changed the whole story of pursuing your career as many organisation are locked up, there are other chances that once you study the labour market definitely you will find something interesting about your career. It doesn’t mean you should start with high paying jobs.

There are other options like the small medium enterprises SMEs, though it might not be your first choice. Being a small fish in a big pond isn’t everyone choice but a fingerlings today become big fish tomorrow. You might in the pursuit of your career grow in the company into a big,well known one.

However, if you haven’t decided on what your career will be, think of what you can pursue with your certificate. A first gotten job doesn’t tie you to your career, never!. You can as well look for more opportunities, try to get connection with people, social media handle like LinkedIn profile, you will meet more people and easily will get better jobs than the one you were doing.

Second, if you can’t find a graduate job with your certificate whether you graduate with 2:1 or 2:2 and you were unable to pursue your career, try to be self employed. The current situation of the country is already showing the way of thinking outside the box if you don’t want to be useless thinking your certificate might fetch you job easily Hmmmm! E go shock you. Some months ago,the president of the country made an alarming statement about the unemployment status of the graduates in the country saying that there is no vacancy anywhere again in the country as everywhere is full. You need to get this straight in to your skull because government won’t be responsible for all our lifestyle as we aren’t practicing communism. Be self employed.

With one Skill or the other you learnt maybe while in school or after school, utilized it to your own advantage because it is going to be the only way you can save yourself. Think of what you can offer to people, what’s your unique selling point? If you can get this straight, people know you for what you do and by then you become your own boss without looking upto anybody.

Thirdly, pursue a post graduate degree,many might find this time consuming or wasting of money but it is most rewarding in some profession as it will be the main determinant of your success. Though people opt to do this for different reason, that is why you must think before you do. Having a post graduate certificate helps in most cases because you have added a drop of achievement to your quota, it will make you different from your peers that had only undergraduate degree. It will give you high chance of getting job than them.

In conclusion, life after school is extremely hard but will be easy if proper steps are taken. You should always plan ahead and don’t expect job to be waiting for you. Plan your year carefully while in school, evaluate what you learn and the skills you developed.
