It is a beautiful privilege to carry someone within you and make that blissful addition to your family. Those are treasures and life moments we appreciate.
But do you know that there are real emotions that go on when a woman is pregnant? Needless to say the spiritual battles? The surge of hormones gives birth to feelings that many times can not be expressed in words. For a husband, this process could bring a tiny mix of confusion and friction amid the expectation of the blessing. Sometimes you wonder if there is a way to help out. Trust me you can’t be of any help if you don’t know what was going on, can you?
What Husbands Should Know
1. Your pregnant wife has fears she may not tell you! Yes there are concerns that generally come with being a mom. First time moms have those worries and feelings of inadequacy. But moms who had rough previous births have other concerns like managing the growing family, scared of the labour process again, coping with work, family and caring for her changing self.
What can you do?
• Listen to her, don’t wave it off like it doesn’t matter.
• Encourage her with positive faith filled words. Biblical Confessions go a long way.
• Pray for her. There is tremendous power in prayers. There is a free Book for you keep reading!
2. She may not know what she wants! Ok you know this, one moment she wants spaghetti a few minutes later it’s cupcake. Don’t get worked up.
What can you do? Try and laugh it off. Throw in a smile and give that look that you totally understand she is in a different season of life. Don’t make it any harder complaining because she has a lot in her mind she isn’t nagging about.
3. Transitioning into a new season is hard! The journey into motherhood is nothing like being single. The carefree mode switches into a life time of caring and nurturing for her new home. It comes easy for some women but not as easy for others. It will help your marriage knowing how your pregnant wife is coping with changes in her body, her routine, her work, her faith etc. And pregnancy is one of those life changing transitions in marriage she has to go through.
What can you do? Help her through the process. A listening ear and genuine hearty conversations will let you know how she is doing. That’s what marriage entails- helping each other through life transitions.
4. She is concerned about her looks! Hmm!! It matters to her she getting out of shape so don’t make her get sweats over her weight before the baby is born. The stretch marks worry her too but there is little she can do about them.
What can you do? Reassure her you love her and she is beautiful all the same. Take walk outs together when you get the chance and spend time as a couple.
