Why “Trust TV Channel” Should Focus More On Educational Programs -By Umar Hassan Muhammed

The first major breakthrough in educational broadcasting came in 1984. These saw the establishment of national educational technology centers under the supervision of the federal ministry of education. It is on record that the establishment of western Nigeria TV(WNTV) and western Nigeria Broadcasting service (WNBS) was to use it as additional means of improving education through various programs, such as television debates/quiz, educational drama, cartoon, folktales. It should be wordy of note, however that education is the only existing structure for national development, hence the need for Trust TV channel’s news to give educational programs more priority, this will go a long way to impact knowledge, learning experience capable of improving national development.

Media is an important type of communication to send message to large audience. Media scholar believes that media agenda influences the public agenda not by saying this issue is important in an overt way, but by giving it more space and time to that issue and by giving it more prominent space and time. Therefore, Trust TV programs on education could help children and adults to acquire New information, knowledge, improve attitude and skills thereby preparing them ahead of their future endeavours. It should be wordy of note that the audio-visual nature of TV could serve as supporting factor to further enhance knowledge and experience to the viewing audience.

In other to transform the life of millions of children educationally in Nigeria and beyond, Trust TV should help to target its programs on edutainment program like, cartoon, folktales, educational drama, television debate/quizzes. Other media station such as NTA, AIT,RTV, star TV to mention but few showed Kid’s educational programs, such program will help to encourage children to love going to school. Program on edutainment will also go a long way to improve the kid’s understanding on the area of subject they find difficult.

Media has become a part of everyday life. It is also an impressive teaching aid of education to a large scattered heterogeneous viewing audience. trust TV programs should be able to respond to the emergency challenge of remote learning in a very impressive way. similarly, Trust TV programs should target formal school subjects with the sole intention of covering certain prescribe syllabus for examination purpose. The use of multimedia in education helps students teacher and parents to get more useful information to connect with learning group. therefor, Trust TV programs should have a specific programs aired to educate the audience on different content related to science and art curriculum.

Media enhance the teaching- learning effectiveness by utilizing various media like printed materials, television, e-learning and multimedia. The audio-visual quality makes educational programs more effective and interesting to the viewing audience. If Trust TV adopt educational programs, it will help to boost cultural economy and social development activity. The programs should aim at teaching etiquettes, language, skills and religion believes.

Additionally, engaging viewers, students and teachers through the educational programs will further impact positively on the teaching-learning relationship. On the final note, media trust limited should continue to partner, as it were before, with secondary and tertiary institution to mentor student who have passion to practice journalism.
Prior to my graduation, I work with the media trust as an IT student under the supervision of Mr. Zakariyya Adaramola; Editor business. Media trust quest in presenting balance, efficient, unbiased report, ensuring professionalism and ethical conduct among the staff, honest and qualitative services to the the humanity, encourage me to pencil down my opinion as to why Trust TV Channel should target more on educational program.
