Zoning PDP’s 2027 Ticket to South Is Wike’s ‘Done Deal’ for Tinubu’s Re-election – Dele Momodu

In a statement posted on his Instagram page Tuesday, Momodu accused the party of “shooting itself in the leg” by yielding to what he described as “cheap and puerile blackmail” from opposition figures secretly working to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Publisher and politician Dele Momodu has strongly criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, calling it “the most reckless decision in the history of our nascent democracy.”

In a statement posted on his Instagram page Tuesday, Momodu accused the party of “shooting itself in the leg” by yielding to what he described as “cheap and puerile blackmail” from opposition figures secretly working to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Yesterday, one of Africa’s biggest, but seriously embattled, political parties shot itself in the leg by choosing to hide behind one finger. The PDP finally succumbed to the cheap and puerile blackmail of the black sheep in the opposition party who are openly and daringly working for the ruling party,” he wrote.

Momodu directly linked the decision to former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, accusing him of manipulating the party in favor of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election agenda.

“Who did not know that ultimately the hand was that of Wike while the voice was that of Tinubu? Their game plan is not hidden,” he claimed.

He alleged that Wike is using his influence over the PDP to pave the way for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election, suggesting the party has effectively become a tool in the hands of the ruling APC.

“The geniuses should be courageous enough to admit that Tinubu will be the joint candidate of APC and PDP in 2027… No Jupiter will stop Wike from using PDP structures for Tinubu. That’s already a done deal,” Momodu declared.

He also blasted Wike for hypocrisy, noting that the former governor opposed zoning in 2022 and even lobbied to become Vice President to a northern candidate. Now, according to Momodu, Wike is pushing for power to return to the South in 2027.

“The same man that threw out zoning in 2022… is the one now crying loudest that power must be ceded to the South.”

Momodu dismissed speculation about possible Southern candidates such as Goodluck Jonathan, Peter Obi, or Seyi Makinde, calling such claims “blatant lies from the pit of hell.”

He further accused the PDP of historical inconsistency and selective morality, citing its silence during key moments in the past.

“Where were these guys when President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua died and no one fought for his replacement from the North after Jonathan completed their first term?” he asked. “Where were they when Tinubu ran on a Muslim/Muslim ticket? The questions can continue ad infinitum!! TRUTH must not be selective…”

Momodu’s statement underscores deepening internal divisions within the PDP and growing fears among opposition figures that the party may be losing its identity and independence ahead of the 2027 general election.
