Your Excellency, this is an Asiwaju (Leadership) moment in your nascent presidency. You have already met two. I am confident that you will also meet this one.

An Asiwaju (Leadership) moment!

Your Excellency,

Congratulations on your assumption of office and welcome to a formidable challenge in your nascent presidency: a labour union planned strike over the removal of oil subsidy that has caused the current hike in oil price!

You have so far in your nascent presidency made major policy statements dealing frontally with the exchange rate duality and the oil-subsidy fiasco. A fallout of the latter is the additional hardship the people are currently experiencing.

My humble suggestions: Your Excellency, please rise to this Asiwaju (Leadership) moment.

1.    Please empanel a committee of people of honest repute to administer a Relief Fund dedicated to handle palliative measures. Please include representatives of the labor unions and civil society groups in the committee.

2.    Please set a fund-raising target adequate to meet the need.

3.    Please lead by donating generously, as you always do, to help victims of disasters anywhere in the country. I thank you profusely for your generosity.

4.    Please ask members of the rich elite class to emulate your gesture and donate very generously to this relief effort!

5.    Please do not borrow or print money so as not to worsen the inflation in the country or increase the debt burden of the country.

6.    Please choose a man or woman of integrity and competence to head the committee.

Your Excellency, this is an Asiwaju (Leadership) moment in your nascent presidency. You have already met two. I am confident that you will also meet this one.

May God Almighty continue to help you meet all the challenges of the presidency. May God bless you, your family, and Nigeria.

Sincerely,

Prince Abitunde Taiwo
