Hunger in Nigeria And Political “I Don’t Care Attitude” -By Muhammed Bello Umar

The hunger situation in Nigeria is dire, and much of it can be attributed to the government’s neglect and lack of political will. In the face of this crisis, it is essential that the government takes action to address the root causes of food insecurity, such as poverty, unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure.

One solution would be for the government to implement policies and programs that address these underlying issues. This can include investing in agricultural development, creating job opportunities, improving transportation infrastructure, and providing access to credit facilities for farmers.

Additionally, the government needs to prioritize social safety net programs that provide assistance to vulnerable groups, such as cash transfers, school feeding programs and food subsidies. They should also develop emergency response plans to mitigate the effect of food crises, as well as provide humanitarian assistance and relief during crises.

However, the government cannot do this alone, and all stakeholders, including civil society organizations, the private sector, and international partners, must come together to address the hunger situation in Nigeria. There must be a coordinated effort to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods, provide access to education and healthcare services, and promote good governance and accountability.

It is crucial that the government takes the issue of food insecurity seriously and prioritizes it. This requires a political will that is currently lacking in the country. Without a conscious effort and determination to address the root causes of food insecurity, Nigeria will continue to face a hunger crisis that impacts the health and well-being of its citizens.
