Since the time of Alhaji Tafawa Balewa and to the present time of President Muhammadu Buhari , Nigeria as a country have attempted to rape Nigerians which in most cases, succeed in doing that to her so called dear citizens unconsciously. We have all been raped in Nigeria even those ones in diaspora. Rape, in all cases, does not imply the act of forcing sexual intercourse upon another person without their consent or against their will , it also imply taking by force , seizures and plunder without other party’s consent. From the time of Immemorial up till now, Nigerians are still dying of raping.

Recently, a lot of Nigerians have all reacted to the murder of a 22 years old student of University of Benin student, Uwa Omazuwa, who was raped ,assaulted and left dead while she was reading in a church. Protests have taken place all around the country specifically in Benin, the state of the occurrence, in Ife and other concerned cities. Some people, however, reacted negatively to the murder claiming that the most rape victims are mostly the spu of the incident. It may be in the manner they dress or the type of company they keep. The assertion above are baseless plainly because those argures whose claims have gone viral on the internet that the rapists are sometimes right by raping girls who dress mannerlessly, these people with above claims shouldn’t have said if they really know that they have also been raped logically in their own country and they do not also know who a rapist is.

If you have forgotten , let me take you to the memory lane: Obafemi Awolowo was raped till death in jail, Dele Giwa was also raped in his own house. Who will forget how Ken-Saro Wiwa and others were raped and killed? That was how the country has been raping us till the present moment. Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare were also raped for months. These are the rape cases we are yet to unravel, those who have tried to unravel them them in the past have ended up entangling themselves. The memory of two hundred girls who were raped would still be fresh in the memories of the affected ones. The dairy of the attacks in the North will not be forgotten. Those bodies decompsing in Kaduna bush were also raped and their cases would be there because they didn’t give up their lives intentionally. It is a rape! If you forget all the rape cases in Nigeria, don’t forget the rape case that transpired in a broad daylight on the 12th of June 1993. We were all raped.

Two things are crucial while embarking on a voyage specificcally not in a calmed sea. The out outcome of the journey will, in the long run, be determined by the two factors. Firstly, there is an instrument which aides the direction of the canoe and the other is the person who directs the instrument. We then have the paddle coupled with the paddler. The paddle has power over the paddler because without the paddle, the canoe will be controlled by storm and consequently move towards a wrong direction. But what do we call the situation where the paddlers control and seize the paddle? It is called a rape. Those people in charge of law are also raping laws.

A rapist is not just the person that violates another sexually. If you take others’ lives and properties unwillingly, you are a rapist of the highest order. Covering up a rapist would also make you a rapist. Someone who defends rape and rationalizing rape with the claims that the victims of rape had played a role in their own rape. Until we come up in Nigeria and defend ourselves, we will continue to be raped in all ramifications. To be free from rapists in all is to find justice for Uwa, don’t forget who a rapist is.
