Bar. Ejiofor confirmed that some supporters of Kanu who gathered at the court premises yesterday were arrested. They had got some of them released. Curiously, some supporters of Kanu who were on their way out of Abuja were arrested by soldiers in Kogi State and detained in their barracks.

This morning, I watched the lawyer to Maazi Nnamdi Kanu, Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor, speak on issues related to the abduction and trial of Nnamdi Kanu.

  1. He drew a line between “arrest” and “abduction.” He noted that Sunday Igboho was arrested in Benin Republic and his case is being treated by the court as it should be. But Kanu was not arrested but abducted in Kenya and smuggled into Nigeria without following due process as stipulated by international laws.
  2. He also stated that when Kanu was abducted in Kenya, his people were searching for him, not knowing his whereabouts. Kanu was hidden somewhere in Kenya for 8 days before being brought to Nigeria.
  3. Mr Ejiofor also confirmed that some supporters of Kanu who gathered at the court premises yesterday were arrested. They had got some of them released. Curiously, some supporters of Kanu who were on their way out of Abuja were arrested by soldiers in Kogi State and detained in their barracks.
  4. He noted that unlike in 2015 to 2017 when Kanu was detained, the UK has not taken interest in the welfare of Kanu this time around. He said that between 2015 and 2017, the UK officials would visit Kanu every two or three days or call his lawyer to make enquiries concerning his welfare and his case. But this time around, there has been none of such show of concern from the UK despite Kanu being their citizen who renounced his Nigerian citizenship five years ago.
  5. He added that contrary to the fresh allegations made by Mr Malami, Nigeria’s attorney-general, no new charges had been filed against Kanu by the FG.
  6. As an aside, those who are close to this handsome, well-dressed barrister should beg him to stop using bleaching creams on his beautiful skin. The bleaching creams are already leaving ugly patches on his face and knuckles. This will get worse in the days ahead if he continues using them. Our African complexion is beautiful the way God created it.
