Kwankwaso’s Return to APC Would Be Like Madmen Swallowing Vomit – Ganduje

Ex-APC Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje says Kwankwaso and his followers would be welcomed as “madmen swallowing their vomit” if they return to the ruling party. He also slammed Kano Governor Abba Yusuf, calling his government “directionless.”

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has mocked suggestions that Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and his supporters might defect to the ruling party, saying they would be received as “madmen returning to their vomit.”

Speaking during an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Kano on Thursday — his first since leaving office — Ganduje dismissed speculations of Kwankwaso’s possible defection, stressing that the former Kano governor lacks consistency.

“We too have heard these rumours, but we don’t take them seriously. In democracy, there’s little difference between a fake cleric and a thief. Kwankwaso once said only a madman would join APC,” Ganduje said in an interview with BBC Hausa monitored in Kaduna on Saturday.

“He even mocked President Tinubu when he was contesting, claiming Tinubu only developed Lagos. Now they want to return. If they come, we’ll welcome them as madmen who swallowed their vomit,” he added.

On reconciliation with Kwankwaso and another former Kano governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, Ganduje said it was not impossible, noting that all three have governance experience that could guide the current administration if unity becomes necessary.

Turning to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Ganduje accused his successor of running a “directionless” government characterized by vendetta.

“When I took over power, I never wasted time probing my predecessor. Governance doesn’t end with one administration. But Abba Yusuf started his government with probes. Tell me, what have they uncovered?” Ganduje asked.

“They’ve received more money in six months than my administration saw in eight years. Yet what have they achieved? This government has no grip on governance. It’s like comparing a messenger with a permanent secretary. Theirs is a government of bandits, clumsy and confused. They spend recklessly on projects without value for money.”

On his removal as APC National Chairman, Ganduje said it was a matter of political zoning and not a fallout with President Bola Tinubu.

“The President did not wrong me. Leadership is by God’s will; He gives it to whom He wants at any time,” he stated.

He also dismissed claims that the APC is losing ground, insisting that despite a few defections, the ruling party remains Nigeria’s biggest political platform.

As of press time, neither Kwankwaso nor Governor Yusuf has responded to Ganduje’s remarks.
