Our Society and Rape -By Babatunde Sulyman

Our wards should be educated more formally on sex education and should be told necessary information on sex. And if any felon is caught and charged for any sex crimes, he should be dealt with as enshrined by the law.

Say no to rape

Yes. on the issue of rape, anyone is vulnerable. Our women, minors, and adults, are not safe. We have reached a time where sex activities are seen as normalcies. We do it in a no proper manner. Even if we are to encourage sex, it should not be performed in an animalistic way: like goat-raped-goat sex.  This is our society where female is exposed to the ill side of sex, not the real sex education, where indecent dressings are allowed, showing of thighs for guys to feed their eyes on it. Sex tapes and pornographies are generally everywhere and very easy to acquire, either on the internet or in our markets. Our musical and film performance are where nudities are traded.

Hence, anytime I come across the news on rape, I won’t be shocked. But as a human, I only pity the prey (female) because of the discomfort she went through which had led to the death of some, like the recent cases that generated a lot of traffic on social media platforms. If only we could know what our society had bedeviled for us, we would see rape as an offshoot of several vices in our society.

But I don’t know why we couldn’t see things from a more critical angle. We are all concerned about the effects of rape, not the societal causes of it.

The tale behind why rape becomes our two-after-three days’ news is because our society is treating sex with the wrong medicine in a wrongful way. There are a lot of vices behind the veil and these are what we should treat first before even battling rape.

Don’t you know that your environment is what bred you, it might bring you up in purity or might fall snows of sins on your head. So, when your environment has failed you; it fails to sharp your life well, then why are you worried when your girls are raped and sexually harassed by your men.  Or what did you say when your daughters were exposing the sensitive part of their bodies? Did you stop her from wearing cleavage cloth or tucking her body with cloth of Boys-Follow-me?

All these, if not deterred, would attract a man and made his wishes to go any length to have a girl under him. When a mother does not sit her child down and discuss menstruation or enlighten here formally on sex education, the young lad wouldn’t understand what sex actually means and that might bounce back. Because society might acquaint her with the wrong information. For instance, I’ve heard of a small girl who involved in sex prematurely because her companions had overhyped lovemaking for her, she also desired the taste.

Personally, I think if we are ready to reduce, if the total stoppage is difficult, the number of rape cases we are recording, we should start the fight from the indecent dressing.  Our wards should be educated more formally on sex education and should be told necessary information on sex. And if any felon is caught and charged for any sex crimes, he should be dealt with as enshrined by the law.
