Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for New Commissioners in FCCPC, NPC, RMAFC, and NERC

President Bola Tinubu has requested Senate confirmation for nominees to key national agencies, including FCCPC, NPC, RMAFC, and NERC, aiming to strengthen regulatory and administrative efficiency across vital sectors.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to screen and confirm several nominees for key national commissions, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), National Population Commission (NPC), Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The request was contained in a letter dated July 31, 2025, and read during Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

For the FCCPC, Tinubu nominated Louis Odion as Commissioner for Operations (Edo State) and Ummueelm Isiyaku Rabiu as Commissioner for Corporate Services (Kano State).

In a separate correspondence, the President also sought the Senate’s approval for the appointment of Agbaje Opeyemi Olukoye as Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC) representing the South-West. Other NPC nominees include Hon. Hafiz Muhammad Kawu Ibrahim (Commissioner, Technical – North-West), Samuel Chigozie Uwande (Commissioner, Inspectorate – South-East), Charles Efe Sylvester (Commissioner, Finance – South-South), Bello Abubakar Malabu (Commissioner, Administration – North-East), Omolola Bridget Oliworaran (Director General – South-West), Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu (Commissioner – Nasarawa), and Tonge Betara Bularafa (Commissioner – Yobe).

For the RMAFC, Tinubu forwarded the names of Bello Abubakar Wammako (Sokoto), Hadizatu Uwani Mustapha (Borno), Senator Marafa Bashir Abba (Taraba), Ahmed Waziri Hassan (Adamawa), Bob Helen Inafe (Bayelsa), and Gboyega Oladele (Osun) for confirmation as commissioners.

Additionally, the President nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramal as Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), alongside Abubakar Yusuf (Commissioner, Consumer Affairs) and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashaun (Commissioner, Finance Management Services).

Tinubu also requested Senate confirmation of Mr. Obehi Aire Okafor as Co-Chairman of the Governing Council of the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund.
