US President Donald Trump has said there is a “real chance” of achieving a Gaza peace agreement, as indirect talks between Hamas and Israeli negotiators continue on the second anniversary of the October 7 attack.

Speaking in the Oval Office on Tuesday alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump told reporters, “We are very close to making a deal on the Middle East that will bring peace to the Middle East.”

He confirmed that US representatives were actively participating in the negotiations taking place in Egypt. According to the White House, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner are part of the diplomatic team.

“There’s a real chance that we could do something,” Trump said. “I think there’s a possibility that we could have peace in the Middle East. It’s something even beyond the Gaza situation. We want a release of the hostages immediately.”

Trump noted that multiple US teams and international partners are involved in facilitating the discussions, adding, “Our team is over there now, another team just left, and other countries, literally every country in the world, has supported the plan.”

He concluded by emphasizing the US commitment to ensuring compliance if an agreement is reached, saying, “The United States will do everything possible to make sure everyone adheres to the deal.”
