…an African proverb that says “One man cannot cook the food that will satisfy the entire members of a given community comes to mind even as Mother Theresa’s quote that says, “If you cannot feed a hundred people, then just feed one” also comes to mind.

NWORAH AND THE RECIPIENTS

There is no denying the fact that Christmas is meant to be a time of joy and light. But imagine having people in your midst that are not as privileged as you are to celebrate the Christmas as it ought to be celebrated on that day, Sunday, December 25, 2021. No one to exchange a gift and share a hug with. Not a single soul to wish them a Merry Christmas. However, Chief Dr. Uche Nworah knows the pain of feeling alone and isolated, as he has over the years been celebrating the Christmas together with people in his community and beyond. In fact, from the supposition of this writer, he is a leader that believes nobody should be left behind at Christmas.

For instance, in the bid to sustain Governor Willie Obiano’s vision that “Ndi Anambra”; both at home and in Diaspora, must happily and merrily celebrate Christmas by each passing year, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Chief Dr. Uche Nworah has distributed bags of rice to the women of his community, Umuakwu village, Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area.

According to Dr Nworah, the initiative, inspired by Governor Willie Obiano helps the less privileged to have a sense of belonging during the Christmas festivities.

For over seven years now, Governor Willie Obiano has ensured that the yuletide in the state remained an unforgettable one; both for the rich and the poor in the society as he sustained the distribution of bags of rice to civil servants by each passing Christmas. The gesture inspired Chief Nworah to join in the practice by extending the largesse to the women of his community especially the indigent.

Offering the bags of rice and cash gifts to indigenes and non-indigenes of the community, Chief Nworah said that the move is also to celebrate the victory of Professor Chukwuma Soludo in the last election and also follows the footsteps of Dr. Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano by caring for women especially the elderly amongst them.

The woman Leader of the village, Mrs. Nneka Oranye in songs of joy explained how Chief Nworah was instrumental to awarding scholarships to students, payments of hospital bills and monthly stipends to women for the running of their families and described him as their child who knows the heart of the women.

She prayed for God’s immense protection and blessings on Dr Nworah, asking others to emulate his footsteps in practicing an open door policy to the people at every point in time. Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Josephine Nwaichor who is 78 years old and Mrs. Chinyere Okeke appreciated Chief Nworah for keeping to his promises of being their husbands as he does not discriminate in any nature which has brought liveliness and joy to their households and prayed God to keep and sustain him in all his endeavours.

In as much as it was gathered that over one hundred and fifty women went home with bags of rice and cash as they sang songs of appreciation, it would also be recalled that he exhibited same magnitude of philanthropy in year 2020 when he celebrated with women of Enugwu Ukwu Community in Njikoka Local Government Area.

According to him at the time; exactly a year ago, he explained that the initiative was inspired by Governor Willie Obiano, and it was aimed at helping the less privileged to be part of the Christmas celebration.

He added that it is also in keeping with the spirit of “Be your brothers and sisters keeper” being promoted by the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA and upheld by the Obiano administration.
Dr. Nworah who is also a member of the Enugwu-Ukwu na Umunri Cabinet noted that despite the challenging circumstances, Christians should continue to love and give more and above all put smile on people’s faces for a fruitful Christmas.
Appreciating Dr Nworah, the woman Leader of the community, Mrs Jane Oranye pointed out that the women have collectively nicknamed him “Odi Mbu Eme” and prayed God to bless and keep him and his household as they wished him more fruitful years ahead.

The women who through their spokesperson revealed that Dr Nworah has continuously waded into misunderstandings concerning women, extolled Dr Uche Nworah’s Mother for his good upbringing which has endeared him to the people of the community.

Responding, the mother popularly known as Iru Ezigbo in the community expressed joy at Dr Nworah’s humane attributes which she noted is worthy of emulation, praying God to continue to uplift him in all endeavours.
