UNIBEN Bans Students’ Sign-Out Celebrations, Warns of Expulsion
The University of Benin has banned all sign-out celebrations by graduating students, warning that violators risk expulsion, rustication, or withdrawal of certificates.
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced a total ban on all forms of sign-out celebrations by graduating students, warning that offenders will face severe disciplinary action.
The directive was contained in a circular issued on Tuesday in Benin by the university’s Registrar, Mr. Ademola Bobola, and addressed to members of the university community.
According to Bobola, the decision followed a management meeting held on Monday, where the university reaffirmed an earlier Senate resolution prohibiting sign-out activities on campus.
“The management declared that no sign-out celebration of any kind — including the signing of T-shirts and the playing of music — will be tolerated,” the circular stated.
It further emphasized that the university would not condone any form of disorderly conduct or unauthorised gatherings during or after examinations.
“Indiscriminate parading around the campuses in any brand of vehicle will not be permitted,” the circular warned, adding that unauthorised vehicles would be barred from entering the campus during the final week of the second-semester examinations.
The management also banned large gatherings around faculties, schools, or institutes after examinations and prohibited photographers from setting up stands or galleries for sign-out celebrations.
In addition, parents and guardians of final-year students were advised to stay away from campus premises, especially on the last day of examinations.
“Parents and guardians of final-year students are advised to stay away from the Faculty, School, or Institute premises, especially on the last day of examination,” the Registrar said.
Bobola stressed that the university’s stance was to maintain order, discipline, and academic decorum within the institution.
“Any violation will attract severe disciplinary sanctions, including rustication, expulsion, or withdrawal of certificate,” he warned.
