Vandals Damage Transmission Towers, Disrupt Power Supply in Northern Nigerian

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported a disturbing incident of vandalism that has disrupted power supply in parts of Northern Nigeria. Four towers on The Jos-Gombe 330 Kilovolt (kV) transmission line were damaged by vandals, causing a significant disruption to the electricity supply in the region.

The incident,which occurred on Monday afternoon, saw towers 288, 289, 290, and 291 deliberately damaged and stripped of valuable components.As a result of the vandalism,the towers collapsed,further exacerbating the situation.

This, in turn, has affected electricity supply to parts of Yola and Jos Electricity Distribution Companies’ franchise areas.

In response to the crisis, TCN is working tirelessly to restore power supply to the affected areas.Efforts are being made to backfeed Gombe through a 132kV transmission line from Bauchi and subsequently Ashaka,Potiskum,Damaturu,and Billiri/Savannah.

The incident highlights the critical issue of vandalism and its detrimental impact on the country’s power infrastructure. TCN has called for increased vigilance and security measures to protect transmission lines and prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the investigation into the vandalism continues,TCN is urging residents in the affected areas to remain patient as they work towards restoring normal power supply. The company is committed to ensuring that electricity consumers receive uninterrupted service and will take all necessary steps to address the situation promptly.
