Wrongful Use Of Delegated Powers Contributes To The Causes Of Social Political And Economic Problems -By Shariff M.M Al-hassan
…there is the need for all strata of government functionaries especially in the government circle to understand properly the power of delegations from the office of the President, Governors, Leaders of Communities, Head of Institutions down the line to know how to use the powers of delegation as it relates to their official duties.
Oftentimes most administrators do not know much difference between actual use of official powers from the use of delegated powers. They in most times misuse, misplace and interchange when to apply delegated powers to things. In doing this very many problems arise. It is therefore imperative that those saddled with the responsibilities of executing government policies must understand their limit of how they should apply delegation s passed to them from their superiors.
Delegated responsibilities are those responsibilities that follows from the principal to subordinates at various stages and levels of execution of such responsibilities. A clear example is from the President, Governors, Head of Organizations or Institutions,Leaders of various Communities who has in most cases constitutional powers but cannot execute them without delegating them to his/her immediate subordinates. This is primary in perfect executions of policies so that the majority can get noticed and carry it out to the targeted audience.
However, the problem of delegation comes from those who it is passed to who in turn do wrongly passes them to his/her immediate subordinates with wrongful additions probably for wrongful benefits. This than result into bad effects to the society.
Nigeria’s problems can be reduced if those saddled with the responsibility of using delegated powers well, better result is likely to be achieved. But in Nigeria the use of delegated powers are oftentimes used wrongfully such as:
i- Government policies passed for delegation are misinterpreted for selfish purposes.
ii-Execute policies outside those delegated by the superiors.
iii-Wrongful assumption of powers of delegation.
iv-Lack of proper understanding of the concept of meanings of delegation.
Therefore, there is the need for all strata of government functionaries especially in the government circle to understand properly the power of delegations from the office of the President, Governors, Leaders of Communities, Head of Institutions down the line to know how to use the powers of delegation as it relates to their official duties. If properly used without they introducing theirs or moves outside the original delegated powers, much problems of Nigeria would have been solved.
