Yobe at 30: Governor Buni’s Landmark Achievements -By Abba Dukawa

Yobe State was carved out of Borno State on August 27, 1991 by the then president General Ibrahim Babangida with its capital in Damaturu. The State shares borders with Borno State to the east, Gombe State to the south, Bauchi and Jigawa States to the East and Niger Republic to the north.

Last week yobe state join its contemporaries states in celebrating its statehood. There is no doubt both military Administrators and civilian Governors of the state had placed Yobe on the path of development. Within 30 years of statehood the state had four military Administrators and five civilians Governors. Colonel Sani Ahmed Daura military Administrator, Police Commissioner Dabo Aliyu, Col Ben Kalio, Col. Musa Mohammed, Bukar Abba Ibrahim January 1992 November 1993, SDP, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, ANPP, Mamman Ali ANPP, Ibrahim Gaidam ANPP/ APC and current Governor Mai Mala Buni APC.

Taking into consideration of 30 years of statehood of Yobe, the state is lucky to have a visionary leader who has a development plan steadily but surely building a foundation for the progress of the state with varied futuristic public policies targeting development of state’s public infrastructure, commercial, industrial and other.

Upon taking the Oath of Office on 29th May 2019, Governor Mai Mala Buni’s assured peoples anticipations from within and outside the state their expectations for consolidation and continuity would not only be sustained, but new projects would be introduced to change their lives.

He also pledged to the people of Yobe state that his administration will be responsive to the needs of the people and will continue to pay special attention to security of lives and property, provide quality healthcare delivery, and improve education, agricultural production, infrastructural development, revived mariboud state own Industries and set out its priorities with a declaration of state of emergency on basic and secondary education. Other Resettlement, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (R3), for the people affected by insurgency to live a life of honor and dignity.

The administration proffers its commitments to create employment opportunities to stimulate the economy for improved revenue generation, and industrialize the state for the greater wealth creation as its now the administration revived resuscitate and upgrade government owned companies
like Gujba Fertiliser Blending Plant, Polythene, Woven Sacks Factory, and the Yobe Flour and Feed Mills and the Sahel Aluminium Companies to production.

The State has witness unprecedented infrastructural development, since the administration came to power in 2019 the administration constructed New Township Roads, Housing, Modern Markets in major towns and provide befitting Trailer Park in Potiskum and complete projects inherited from the former administration.

After 30 years of yobe as the state, now healthcare delivery in the state has witness unprecedented change as the people of the state can access best state-of-the-art medical facilities and equipments to provide the best health services to the people by HMB. The current administration has demonstrated it true passion for issues concerning peoples and state as a whole; he worked passionately to address matters of great concern to the Yobeans and quickly earned a reputation as a Hard-working and People’s Governor.

Taking into consideration of 30 years of statehood of Yobe, the state is lucky to have a leader with vision so a visionary leader should be celebrated for his valuable contribution to humanity. Hon Mai Mala Buni’s nickname “the Stabilizer” ,amongst supporters within and outside the state as he has also been constant, stabilizing factor in the state.

For HMB the purpose of human life is to serve and to show compassion and the will that will help others and always the present administration has shows its commitments in prevailing interest of the masses. should not been sacrificed either on the altar of political expediency or in pursuit of a narrow selfish agenda of those who operate the levers of authority.

Among his contemporaries Governors serving the state, Governor Mai Mala Buni’s leadership is a reflection of the thoughts of Muhammad Bello Danfodio where he says “If the Almighty Allah wishes people good, He gives leadership in their affairs to the best of them. HMB, displayed high and esteemed leadership qualities which endeared to the people of the state. His political vision and character has been informed and guided by like late Aminu Kano’s this philosophy of emancipation and improving lives of masses. Toward improve state internal security the administration also pays a high premium on public security and it is not only supporting federal security agencies.

Infact Hon Mala Buni’s administration has earned the trust and confidence of many people within and outside the state as well as his party. He is charting a new course of state and his work simply speaks for. There is a general consensus that the government is working for the Yobeans as the state celebrates 30years of statehood on the 27th August 2021.
