Yobe Orders Immediate Closure of All Boarding Secondary Schools Over Insecurity Concerns
The Yobe State Government has directed the immediate shutdown of all boarding secondary schools following a security review. Officials say the measure is temporary and aimed at safeguarding students amid recent breaches in other states.
The Yobe State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all boarding secondary schools as a proactive step to protect students amid rising security concerns.
The directive was announced in a statement by Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, on Saturday in Damaturu.
Mohammed explained that the decision followed a security meeting attended by the governor and top security chiefs in the state.
He said the measure became necessary after reviewing recent security breaches recorded in schools across some states in the country.
Mohammed added that Governor Buni urged residents to continue praying for leaders, security agencies, peace, and improved safety in the state and the nation.
He also quoted Dr. Bukar Aji-Bukar, Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, as saying that the shutdown is temporary and will remain in place until security conditions improve.
According to the statement, principals of all affected schools have been instructed to fully comply with the directive.
