An Open Letter to the Honourable Minister of Health -By Professor Okike Benjamin

Dear Sir,

Before now, I have written a letter of complaint on the 22nd March, 2019 to the Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme. After waiting for a response from his office for a considerable length of time to no avail, I wrote an Open Letter to him, as usual nothing happened as to call the supposedly registered Health Insurance company to order. This made me to come to a conclusion that perhaps those behind Maayoit are untouchable or that highly placed staff of NHIS are involved in this fraudulent activities by Maayoit. Similarly, when I got the contacts to the Maayoit Board Chairman, I also wrote a complaint mail to him, but he never responded. In the light of these, I am left with no other option, but to write to the Honorable Minister of Health. The Open Letter written to the Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme can be read here

In in order to ensure accountability and transparency in service delivery in the Health Sector under your watch, registered Health Insurance companies should be on this same page with the present day Government in Power (GIP) in the fight against corruption.

Honourable Minister Sir, it is good you start pointing your tourchlight towards fraudulent NHIS registered Healthcare Insurance companies like Maayoit to reduce the rot in that system. It is possible the present Executive Secretary of National Health Insurance, Prof. Mohammed Sambo is just playing along by maintaining status quo so as to avoid a repeat of corrupt staff demonstrations that characterized his predecessor’s administration, Prof Usman Yusuf who was sacked because of his determination to cleanse the rot in NHIS. And so Honourable Minister, I pray that you take a critical look at the registered Healthcare companies with view of deregistering those not complying with the act that established the scheme. As a Medical Doctor, you can carry out preliminary investigation on Maayoit Healthcare Limited from your Doctor colleagues and other health workers who are not usually satisfied with their services, but do nothing about them.

Thanks as I expect prompt action from your office soonest.

Yours faithfully,
