“It used to be the key, but they changed the padlock”

Education is globally accepted and referred to as the key to success. It is known to be a means through which poverty could be eradicated. To rise up a high status anywhere, you have to be educated. It is even the best legacy a parent can lay down for their children. This used to be the slogan everywhere, but in my country -Nigeria, it was an apology. For a professor who had many restless days and sleepless nights to be rendered abase in the sight of a secondary school dropout was nothing to be proud of.

Education is the key to success while we keep producing millions of graduates who have successfully acquire the key only to join the Unemployment queue. Is it no longer the key?

We attended school with the sole reason of making a change in lives of all and sundry, breaking the barriers and obstacles! Why are we still living as an uneducated literates? Since we have the key right in our hand, the next step ought to be unlocking all secret doors with our potential that would pave the way for us to succeed. Why then is the key useless?

It is the Key! Yes, education is! But they changed the padlock. We presuppose that education is what we need but they make us realize that it is not. The new padlock was none but Corruption that could only be accessed by the key Connection. They lured us into the desire for being educated whilst they know better that it won’t pay us.

Their children are somewhere else enjoying the fact that education was valued there to arrive and occupy those vacant seats. They turn our office to their family post that must be occupied generation after generation. Oh ye fathers, mothers and elders. How would you tell this generation that Education is still a legacy to be laid? How would you proof us wrong from the general saying that Schooling is a scam; our motto right now?
