Helping Marriages Stay Strong: Understanding Divorce in Our Community -By Yasir Shehu Adam
We should care more about finding someone who is a good person and shares our values, rather than just focusing on looks or money.
In recent times, the Hausa-Fulani community has witnessed a concerning surge in diverse rates, particularly among women. A lot of young women became divorcées. Upon closer examination, it becomes apparent that several societal issues contribute to this unsettling trend.
Problems Faced by Husbands Today:
- Big Expectations: Some husbands care more about having a fancy wedding than staying committed to their marriage. When things get tough, they might choose to divorce instead of trying to fix things.
- Lack of Patience: Nowadays, husbands don’t always have the patience to work through problems in their marriages like they used to.
- Marriage Isn’t as Special: Marriage used to be a big deal, but now it’s easier to get married and divorced, which makes some people take marriage less seriously.
Problems Faced by Women Today:
- High Expectations: Some women have unrealistic ideas about marriage because of what they see in movies and TV shows. This can lead to disappointment when their real-life marriage doesn’t match up.
- Money Problems: Women might be better at handling tough times at home with their families than in their marriages. Financial issues can be especially tough.
- Marriage Pressure: Women might feel pressured to get married quickly because of what’s happening in society. This rush can sometimes lead to unhappy marriages.
Solutions to Address These Problems:
- Focus on What Really Matters: We should care more about finding someone who is a good person and shares our values, rather than just focusing on looks or money.
- Change Some Traditions: Some traditions around weddings and marriages might be causing problems. We should think about changing them to make things better.
- Respect and Understand Each Other: We need to treat our partners with respect and try to understand each other better. This will help make our marriages stronger.
