According to an analysis by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, or NCAA, the Dana Air aircraft experienced a runway excursion when it landed. Its nose wheel retracted, its nose crumpled, and it drifted off the runway and into the grassy area.

The Air Transport Controller, or ATC, Tower, made this discovery, according to a statement released by Capt. Chris Najomo, the acting director general of the NCAA.

He said that although Runway 18L was closed, the passengers and crew successfully departed from the airplane.
