Let Hanifa’s Soul, Rest in Peace -By Ishaq Habeeb
Now if I were an influencer or even just a regular bandwagoner, shey I would’ve also stopped by to say my condolences, in person – as is now the trend – which comes with a selfie with the bereaved family?
By mere happenstance, i was around the axis of the residence of the late Hanifa yesterday – I know bcos, the tricyclist I chartered to where I was headed, told me and the place looked festive anyways – and had also incidentally drove past the torched school today (I immediately know because the picture is in the news, where people now goes to take selfies and attach to their online eulogies and whatnot).

It is only humane to mourn the gruesome murder of the little girl, what’s inhumane however, is turning the ugly incident into a fad. Ironically, you don’t even need to say “Rest in peace Hanifa,” because as a 5-year-old, she’s sinless, so definitely in a much better place.
Let’s pray for strength for the parents of the little girl to manage the pain of the loss and move on without social media and clout chasers, getting in the way.
